    All Gold American Eagle coins contain 1/10 of an ounce of .9999 pure, American gold.

    Every Gold American Eagle coin contains 3.11 grams of 24 karats (.9999 pure American gold). After that, they add .28 grams of silver and copper to the coin. Silver helps to bring out the luster in the coins and the copper helps make the coins more durable, as Gold is one of the softest metals.
