Canada’s Highly Secure Maple Leaf Gold Bullion Coins

For investors concerned about potential fraud, the Canadian Maple Leaf bullion coin provides unmatched security.  In partnership with French digital authentication company Edgyn, the Royal Canadian Mint developed a proprietary “Bullion DNA” (Digital Non-Destructive Activation) technology to produce its gold and silver coins.

Each coin has its own light-diffracting pattern resulting from the particular alignment of radial lines that stretch across the coin’s surface. Most importantly, every die that is used to produce Maple Leaf coins is laser engraved with a tiny anti-counterfeiting mark within the coin’s textured maple leaf.

The “DNA” technology captures these microscopic surface characteristics as digital fingerprints that are then encrypted into a string of codes and securely stored in the Royal Canadian Mint’s central database. This allows a coin’s authenticity to be easily verified.

The Royal Canadian Mint has been using DNA technology for one ounce gold Maple Leaf coins since 2014 and one ounce silver Maple Leaf coins since 2015. This anti-counterfeiting technology has strengthened investor confidence and helped maintain strong resale value since the authenticity of the coins can easily be recognized around the globe.

The Canadian Maple Leaf is a 24-karat gold coin with a purity of 99.99 percent, making it an excellent choice for investors seeking to securely build their gold holdings. American Gold Eagles contain the same quantity of gold, but have an alloy of copper and silver added to improve durability and reduce the risk of scratches. So, for collectors who wish to frequently handle their gold, the American Gold Eagle may be preferable.
